Your occlusion is how your teeth mesh together, both closed, at rest, and when chewing. Ideally, all your teeth should touch at the same time and with the same pressure. This equalizes the pressure on the teeth, stabilizes your jaw, and protects your jaw joint (TMJ).

Unfortunately, that is not the case for most of us. Unequal pressure on the teeth can cause tooth fracture, uneven wear, loosening of the teeth, and contributes to periodontal disease.

Treatment can be as easy as reshaping the teeth to provide a more even contact, or sometimes may include restorations and/or orthodontics.
