First Visit & New Patient Exam
The first time you come into our office, our friendly staff will welcome you and help you fill out your paperwork. Dr. Gumm will conduct a detailed personal consultation and oral examination to find out about your dental concerns and determine the current condition of your oral health.
Dr. Gumm has completed extensive training in all aspects of dentistry, including gum disease treatment, dental restoration and bite evaluation. Thanks to his training and experience, he is able to make accurate diagnoses and lay out custom treatment plans to effectively address any issues.
New Patient Exam
Dr. Gumm first gets to know you, your dental goals, and what brought you to our office. He is interested to know if you have any immediate concerns or issues you would like to see addressed. Dr. Gumm will also review your medical history with you, so that he is aware of any medications you are taking or medical conditions he should take into account during your treatment.
Dr. Gumm will look at the inside of your mouth using an intraoral camera. The camera will show both you and him the details of your teeth and gums.
Our staff will take individual digital X-rays and panoramic X-rays (X-rays that show the whole mouth in one view). Digital X-rays produce crisp, detailed images that are immediately available for viewing, and they use 80 percent less radiation than traditional X-rays.
Oral cancer screening
Dr. Gumm will do a visual and manual inspection of your mouth to look for any suspicious-looking tissues. In most cases, oral cancer is easily treated when detected early, so regular screening is an important tool to protect your health.
As part of your New Patient Exam, Dr. Gumm will conduct a thorough evaluation of your gums. This includes detailed measurements of the spaces around your gums, and an evaluation of all the tissues surrounding your teeth. This will help him detect gum disease early, so that it can be quickly and effectively treated if found.
Dr. Gumm is very knowledgeable on the subject of dental occlusion—the natural way that the teeth and jaws should come together. He will perform a thorough bite evaluation to detect any problems with your teeth, bite or jaw joints.
